Director:

Beverley Ohashi is an experienced principal as a coach and instructor for the Ontario Principals’ Council, a Toronto District School Board principal of 2 flagship secondary schools, Earl Haig S.S., A.Y. Jackson S.S., and Supervising Principal of Community Development & International Languages. As an educational leader, she endorses a partnership model to ensure a commitment to student success, equity, accountability, and global understanding. The Learning Partnership dedicated to championing a strong public education system in Canada has recognized her as a 2010 recipient of Canada’s Outstanding Principals Award.

Teachers:

Edward Barnard has taught mathematics for over 31 years at all levels including enriched math.  As an assistant head of Mathematics at A.Y. Jackson S.S. for 22 years, Mr. Barnard organized and administered many math contests such as the Waterloo Descartes Math Content for senior students.  As an exemplary mathematician and teacher with Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degrees, Mr. Barnard was honoured with the Edith May Sliffe Award for Distinguished High School Math teaching.  He believes that it is critical that students understand the thought process and analytical skills needed for problem solving.  They should learn how to apply concepts and extend their knowledge through independent thinking.

Dianne McMurray, B.A., B.Ed. believes “learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere”. She has 35 years of experience as an English teacher with the Toronto District School Board as well as being a guidance counsellor, department head, and educational diagnostician. Her extensive experience teaching ESL to secondary school students and adults as well as working with international students both on-line and in the classroom setting will bring the richness of learning and growth to her students.

Heather Bichan is an experienced teacher of English and ESL whose love of the English language and its literature led to a B.A. in English and an M.Ed. in Curriculum from the University of Toronto. As a teacher, she hopes to inspire that enthusiasm in her students. She has also taught English in the International Baccalaurete program and now has a private tutoring service for students in IB programs and Ontario accredited courses.

Jessica Whitehead attended York University to obtain her Bachelor of Education Degree and also received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in drawing and painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCADU). Teaching overseas in Taiwan with the AYJGlobal Program has given her the experience of designing creative lessons that are both dynamic and diverse for integrated and interactive learning. Jessica is also qualified in ESL, Kindergarten and Special Education that defines her as a teacher who meets the individual needs of her students.

Joyce Wong is a graduate from University of Toronto holding the Master of Teaching degree with qualifications to teach Mathematics, English, Special Education and ESL in secondary schools.  As well, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree double majoring in Mathematics and Philosophy.  With a wide breadth of teachable subjects, she is committed in educating the 21stcentury learner by creating classrooms and learning experiences that are engaging, fun and meaningful.

Stefanie Liassides studied Criminology and History and obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree at York University. She also received her Bachelor of Education and additional qualifications in Special Education and English as a Second Language at York University. Having worked with the AYJGlobal Program for two years, she has been able to appreciate the diversity of students around the globe. She is enthusiastic to teach students and is committed to helping them succeed. 

Zafer Kahwash has a BA and a Higher Diploma Degree in the English Language and Literature. He has worked with English programs for more than 14 years, both in teaching and management. He has used his extensive overseas experience with ESL and English international tests to develop a standardized assessment test and to run the preparation courses for IELTS and TOEFL at the college. Zafer believes that a good educator is the one who can always instill a positive attitude towards learning into the learners’ minds.
