Meet Our New Co-Artistic Director!

Lina Li Pianist and Choir Director

We are so excited to officially introduce Dr. Lina Li as our new Co-Artistic Director of the Gifted Arts Program! Congratulations, we are so happy to have you on board Dr. Li!

Lina Li is a collaborative pianist, vocal coach, and choir conductor who has performed extensively in North America and Europe. She has a rich background in both vocal and instrumental music and has brought her wealth of knowledge and passion to students and communities. Through her studies and work at Western University (2005-2016), Boston University (2016-2019), and the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra (2017-2019), she has honed her exceptional performance and teaching abilities. Her students have been admitted to music programs at The Glenn Gould School, University of Toronto, and the Curtis Institute of Music. Her private vocal students have also excelled in Canadian and international competitions. Lina holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Collaborative Piano from Boston University, two solo piano degrees from Western University, a Higher Education Teaching Certificate from Harvard University, and a Grade 10 certificate in voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music.

We sat down with the new Co-Director to ask her a few questions about her new position and vision for the Gifted Arts Program.

Q1: What are your hopes and vision for LC’s Gifted Arts program?

A1: My vision is for every child to discover their voice and identity through the arts, shaping and influencing the world with their creative expressions.

Q2: What sparked your interest in wanting to be apart of the G.A. program?

A2: Attending an arts high school in New York City transformed my life. There, I met individuals with similar interests who were understanding and accepting. I was deeply inspired by the high quality of teaching and art-making, and I realized how much an arts education can benefit students who may struggle to express themselves. This experience motivated me to teach and lead an arts program, aiming to make a meaningful impact on young people’s lives. High school is a critical stage for self-discovery and exploring future aspirations.

Q3: What do you hope your students in the program will achieve?

A3: I hope students will develop a global perspective through their practice and creation of art, empowering them to effect change and influence the world we live in.

Q4: What is your philosophy when it comes to the G.A. program?

A4: I believe every child has a unique gift, and through the Gifted Arts program, I hope they will uncover their true potential. While I don’t expect all music students to become performers or educators, I believe their backgrounds in art and music will enhance their professional skills and foster a deeper understanding of others.

Q5: What drew you to Laureate College?

A5: I was drawn to Laureate College because of its exceptional leaders, Mr. James Shen and Ms. Bev Ohashi, who possess a genuine vision and passion for education and the arts. Additionally, the campus provides an inspiring environment for artistic expression and creativity.
