Summer Opportunities

During the summer months, students are often looking for opportunities to upgrade credits, advance their learning, study overseas, or volunteer. As much as it is a time to enjoy some relaxation and fun, students also want to find ways to stay connected with friends and make new friends. They will also realize that learning is forever because we have a world that expects us to adapt to continuous change and global responsibilities.

Credits Towards the Ontario Secondary School Program (OSSD)

A variety of credit courses are available either online or in person learning. These courses are condensed into a one month program that covers the curriculum within 20 days (Mon. to Fri.) The student participates 3 days of virtual classes if taking online learning or coming to school 5 days a week from 8:45 am to 3:15 pm.

Earning OSSD Credits Overseas

The summer months allows students to consider earning credits in other countries. Arrangements are made for flights, airport transfers, accommodations, meals, excursions, and supervision. Credit courses are offered based on student requests. Common courses are English, ESL, Math, and Business Courses.

Preparing for the next school year

Students may take time to get extra support to prepare for the next school year whether it is taking sessions to improve their language or math skills. Some students consider auditing credit courses so that they are familiar with the content and understanding of a course they plan to take in September. Auditing students will not be evaluated by the teacher but can get support as they work through the course. No credit will be earned and an anecdotal assessment is given at the end of the course.

Volunteering

Helping others develops character in young people to care for others, make a contribution to our society, and understand global responsibility. Students learn the importance of commitment, social responsibility, and collaboration.

Study Tours

International students come to Laureate to spend 2 to 3 weeks where they take language classes and also enjoy sightseeing around Ontario. For more information about joining a study program, see our Study Program page. Local students can also participate in this program as a peer tutor or join the activities.
